I have 16 years experience designing and developing websites and applications for the web, 13 years operating my own successful businesses and 10 years running a letterpress printing and design shop. Currently, I'm accepting web design and development work and working hard with two of my employees running Hoban Press and Hoban Cards.

Letterpress Printer

Owner - Hoban Press January 2010 - Present

Because of my love for design and typography, I began letterpress printing as a hobby in my garage in 2010. Since then, it's turned into a profitable business venture. I create letterpress printed materials for customers all over the world. I currently have two full time employee. Duties and accomplishments include:

  • Designed Hoban Cards (Drupal Commerce) and Hoban Press (Kirby CMS), which were both featured on several design gallery websites.
  • Used Drupal and Drupal Commerce to build a custom website to accommodate the unique needs of Hoban Cards to accept and process orders across the globe.
  • Designed and created a custom shopping cart using Ruby on Rails to accept online orders. (Hoban Cards v.2)
  • Designed thousands of custom letterpress printed business cards and stationery items for a worldwide clientele.
  • Fulfill rush orders and coordinate shipping logistics for international customers.
  • Hired and Manages two full time employees.
  • Gained valuable knowledge on effective advertising techniques and approaches including interacting with ads on major social media platforms and promoting products through blogs and podcasts.

ITS III Developer

Lewis County, Washington July 2008 - November 2014

In 2008 I joined a team of 3 developers to produce and maintain internal software for Lewis County Washington. I create and maintain all front end code for over 20 internal and external facing web based software applications. Specific accomplishments include:

  • Created my own CSS framework for rapid development and consistency between county software.
  • Designed and implemented a complete custom interface for our custom developed CMS.
  • Designed, implemented and maintained over a dozen public and private web based applications including the Lewis County Washington Website, River Readings, Road Conditions, Parcel System, Burn Permits, Jail Roster, and the Small Works Roster - among others.
  • Developed simple Ruby on Rails and Sinatra applications from the ground up.
  • Worked with templating languages within Ruby on Rails and .NET MVC.
  • Helped maintain our code base using Git for version control.
  • Created a touch based kiosk for campus navigation.
  • Designed all county branding including logo, letterheads, and business cards.
  • Coordinated projects within a small team of 3 developers.
  • Utilized Haml and Scss to make writing code quicker and easier.

Freelance Web Designer

Swecker Creative / Intrinsic Studio / Hoban Press 2005 - Present

I received my start working for Swecker Creative, a small web development company based in Seattle. Since then, I've worked for myself doing freelance web design and development for small businesses and individuals.

  • Design, Built and Deployed dynamic Drupal websites.
  • Designed my own custom Content Management System for use on small to medium websites.
  • Created 20+ websites for clients and businesses over the past 10 years.
  • Designed logos, banners and print items with Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks.
  • Hired and managed my own freelance help.
  • Designed custom Wordpress templates and installs.
  • Worked with PHP and mySQL to provide dynamic content.
  • Managed DNS and domain settings.

Recently designed websites included: Flex Fuel, Hoban Cards, and Keikeu Cake Boutique.

Shift Manager / Barista

Starbucks Coffee Co. 2003 - 2005

After working as I barista for Starbucks, I was promoted to a shift supervisor position were I was responsible for handling cash and overseeing shifts.

  • Learned the ability to stay composed in a high stress, quick moving environment.
  • Made fast paced decisions while responsible for 4+ employees.
  • Ran shifts while coordinating breaks and changing schedules.
  • Responsibly handled sizable amounts of cash.

After graduating High School, I graduated from a two year ministry school focusing on ministry, service, and character building.

  • Traveled to Scotland on a mission trip twice to work with children in poor neighborhoods.
  • Traveled around the Northwest assisting dozens of churches and cities.
  • Studied and practiced public speaking in front of hundreds of people.
  • Lead first year students as a second year intern.
  • Studied college courses from Berean University (Global University) and obtain my Christian Workers Certificate from the Assemblies of God Denomination.

Interests

In addition to my spending time with my wife of 16 years and 15 year old daughter, I enjoy: letterpress printing on my 4 letterpresses, driving my 1989 VW Westfalia Vanagon, roasting coffee, cycling, camping, and playing guitar.
